On
December 10, 2016, Huawei and Beijing Telecom made a successful VoLTE video
call on a real commercially oriented network, as part of the pilot VoLTE
project. The pilot project adopted the NFV architecture and connected to China
Telecom's live 800 MHz network. This call is the first video call on the vIMS +
VoLTE + 800 MHz network. At the recent Smart Ecological Cooperation and
Terminal Industry Summit, China Telecom exhibited its plan to establish the
world's first low-frequency LTE network on the 800 MHz frequency in 2017. It
also planned to provide quality VoLTE services and implement integration
between its own systems and terminals and the global industry chain. The
success of this call marked a significant step forward for the 4G strategy of
China Telecom.
Since
the rollout of China Telecom's VoLTE pilot project, Huawei and every pilot
subsidiary of China Telecom have attached great importance to VoLTE network
construction and pilot verification. Through close collaboration, both parties overcame
a series of difficulties caused by complex NFV and VoLTE technologies and massive
interfaces for joint commissioning. Together they deployed a commercial vIMS +
VoLTE network in a short period of time. On December 10, they made the first HD
video call on this commercially oriented VoLTE network in Beijing, laying a
solid foundation for subsequent pilot operations.
China
Telecom is committed to build an innovative VoLTE network based on the NFV
architecture. Featuring hierarchical decoupling and universal hardware, this
architecture implements flexible service orchestration and elastic scaling. The
NFV architecture is agile, open, and automatic. Using this architecture, a VoLTE
network can improve the service rollout speed and facilitate network capability
invoking. In addition, it provides efficient service, app, and NFVI management.
China Telecom expressed
that it would speed up its VoLTE commercialization in 2017. Huawei, as a
strategic partner of China Telecom, will continuously help China Telecom accelerate
VoLTE network construction and promote transformation to the next-generation
intelligent network.
