OPNFV's Participation in HUAWEI CONNECT 2016

HUAWEI CONNECT 2016 is the largest ICT industry ecosystem conference held by Huawei. The conference has attracted thought leaders and experts from around the world. OPNFV, the most influential Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) open-source organization, also attended the conference and, though their organizations differ, OPNFV found common ground with Huawei.

Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solution provider dedicated to establishing an information society and a better connected world.
OPNFV is a carrier-grade, integrated, open source platform dedicated to introducing new NFV products and services and promoting the full cloudification of network functions.

Common Point2: Same Influential Industry Positions

Huawei is the world's largest telecom equipment vendor and leading the way in NFV. Huawei has advanced NFV technologies and has pioneered a number of NFV standards and has also set up many commercial NFV networks around the world.

OPNFV is the world's most influential open-source organization in the NFV field. Its contribution to telecom network transformation is widely recognized by companies in the industry.

Common Point3: Same Numerous Partners

Huawei has built interconnected Cloud Open Labs in different locations to cooperate with hundreds of partners and promote carriers' digital transformation.

OPNFV has 55 member companies, owns 12 pharos community labs, and cooperates with 9 upstream communities.

How did OPNFV interact with Huawei at HUAWEI CONNECT 2016?

Forrest Lee, director of Huawei OPNFV open source development team, gave a speech called "OPNFV: A Carrier-Class Open-Source Reference Platform". He described how to ensure carrier-class reliability using the OPNFV platform, as well as Huawei's plan and strategy as a member of the OPNFV community. He also revealed that Huawei is ahead in open source communities.

Experts from OPNFV member organizations, such as Intel, Tongji University, Spirent, and Huawei, shared both the progress of OPNFV programs and the latest version of OPNFV. OPNFV booth attracted representatives from many carriers such as China Mobile, China Telecom, Vodafone, France Telecom, Turkcell, Zain and HKT. They all agreed that an open-source, carrier-class OPNFV ecosystem will play a crucial role in the full cloudification of carrier networks and pave the way for more innovations.

Dr. Deng Hui, board member of OPNFV and principal staff at China Mobile Research Institute, said in an interview at the conference that he is glad to see so many companies such as Huawei, China Mobile, Intel, and Spirent sharing in the development of OPNFV. He also believes that OPNFV will further share code resources, improve R&D efficiency, speed up network cloudification, and drive industry development.

 

The third version of OPNFV will release in September 2016 and OPNFV will hold the Second Plugfest Summit in December 2016 at the interoperability laboratory in the University of New Hampshire in the United States. In addition, the Third OPNFV Summit will be held in June 2017 in Beijing.
